1. Your job as VP of IT operations is to ensure the fast, predictable and uninterrupted the impact and disruption of unplanned work.

2. Four categories of work: business projects, internal IT projects, changes, firefighting(unplanned work). Unlike other categories of work, unplanned work is recovery work which almost always takes you away from your goals. So it is important to know where your unplanned work is coming from.

3. Work steps:

   Step 1: identify the constraint

   Step 2: exploit the constraint and make sure the constraint is not allowed to waste any time
